The GBS Group is currently looking to hire an experienced Electronics Technician to support our work within the transportation industry. This position will be working with shop personnel troubleshooting electrical power conversion equipment and associated control systems. The individual will also provide/modify test procedures as required to safely test on-board equipment, perform troubleshooting, testing, maintenance oversight for repairs to locomotive power systems, to include: high voltage transformers, rectifiers, inverters, AC and DC motors, power electronic devices, as well as analog and digital control systems.
Position Requirements:
Candidates must have the ability to work independently and be able to communicate effectively with team engineers and customers to identify and solve problems as related to power conversion systems that require in-depth analysis and solutions. The candidate must possess a strong understanding of electrical fundamentals, be able to understand multiple root causes, and communicate findings and recommendations to management and technical level personnel both verbally and in writing. Candidates must be able to solve unusual maintenance problems that require the application of journey level trade skills to provide the most efficient course of action. Candidate should be able to work collaboratively with subordinates, peers, and/or managers to understand the nature of the problem. They will then evaluate the options and choose an appropriate action by considering potential outcomes. The candidate will plan and implement methodologies and procedures according to the principles of electrical engineering and control and power distribution theory.
Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred or equivalent technical experience with three to four years of work-related skill or knowledge in the fundamentals of electrical distribution systems and power and control circuit analysis.
- Candidates must have strong analytical skills, demonstrated problem-solving capability, and an interest and aptitude for electronic systems.
- Rail experience is a plus.

- Must be able to climb, lift, and carry moderate loads or equipment in an industrial and railroad environment including uneven ground, tight spaces, high levels, vertical ladders, outdoors and exposure to elements.
- Must be able to read, use, and understand complex electrical wiring schematics and specifications.
- Must understand the safe proper use of electrical test equipment including multi-meters, power analyzers, meggers, etc.
- Must work well with people and possess good oral and written communications skills.
