Solid Waste and Waste Oil Analysis for Military Sealift Command
Virginia Beach, VA – August 5, 2011 – The GBS Group, an engineering consulting and technical services firm, has announced the award of a contract with the Engineering Branch of the Military Sealift Command (MSC) for technical support to survey and evaluate the solid waste and waste oil collection, treatment, and disposal systems and procedures aboard the Watson Class vessels in order to develop sustainable waste management system design approaches.
GBS CEO Bob Golden noted the importance of this contract win. "This represents a new direct client for GBS and we look forward to providing support to MSC for this waste management study and other efforts in the future." GBS' Brian Trees, Senior Consulting Manager for Environmental Engineering will lead this study.
GBS will evaluate existing ship systems and operational procedures, collect generation rate and cost data, and conduct a market survey to identify practices, processes, and technologies that may improve the efficiency of the current waste management system while reducing cost and operator intervention. This survey will include estimates for operating and maintenance costs and a Business Case Analysis for Return on Investment (ROI) and payback period estimates. GBS has teamed with NDI Engineering of New Jersey as a subcontractor for this task to support the design cost estimating effort.
