GBSTAB-01:

 

Overview of Tableau Desktop Professional, Tableau Server, and Tableau Reader

Time:   2 Hours
Target Audience:   This class is intended as an introductory offering to demonstrate the capabilities of the Tableau software suite for those individuals with no, or limited, experience with the product.
What the student will learn:   An overview of Tableau product suite and their capabilities prior to purchasing Tableau software.
Methods:   Provide examples of each product and how they work together.
 Prerequisite:   None

 

GBSTAB-02:   Introduction to Tableau's UI (User Interface)
Time:   4 Hours
Target Audience:   This class is intended for new Tableau users who desire an understanding of how to use the basic functionality provided by the software suite.
What the student will learn:   Students successfully completing the course will have a fundamental understanding of how to use Tableau's user interface to create basic visualization analyses.
Methods:

  • Understanding dimensions and measures
  • Understanding how Tableau classifies data types; i.e., strings, floats, int., etc.
Prerequisites:   GBSTAB-01 or a basic understanding of Tableau

 

GBSTAB-03:

 

Connecting to Data

Time:   2 Hours
Target Audience:  

This class is intended for intermediate Tableau users who desire an understanding of how to connect Tableau with different external datasets for analysis.

What the student will learn:

 

Students successfully completing the course will have a fundamental understanding of the requirements for importing both static and dynamic datasets into Tableau for analysis.

  • Flat files (Excel & Access)
  • Copy and Paste from a data source
  • Single Table
  • Multiple Tables
  • Custom SQL
  • Editing Data Connections
  • Data Menu
  • Native database connections
  • Exporting Data Connections
  • Publishing Data connections to Tableau Server
Prerequisites:   GBSTAB-02 or a basic understanding of Tableau and how to work with the UI

 

GBSTAB-04:

 

Calculated Fields

 Time:   8 Hours
 Target Audience:   The class is intended for intermediate Tableau users who desire to further their skills by understanding how to use calculated fields within Tableau.
What the student will learn:   Students successfully completing this course will have an understanding of how to define, create, and visualize analyses of new variables that are a function of the original dataset.

  • Why do we need calculated fields?
  • Types of calculated fields
  • Table calculations
  • Conditional filters
  • Custom Calculated Fields
  • Mathematical Calculations
  • Custom Aggregations
  • Logical Statements and Cohort calculations
  • Data Calculations
  • String Functions
 Prerequisites:   GBSTAB-02 or a basic understanding of Tableau and how to work with the UI

 

GBSTAB-05:   Developing Visuals
Time:   8 Hours
Target Audience:  

This course is intended for intermediate users desiring an understand of how to create custom visualizations of datasets using Tableau.

What the student will learn:   Students successfully completing this course will have a fundamental understanding of the types of visualization that can be created using Tableau and how to create and structure datasets to accommodate these visualizations.
Methods:  
  • Use of data engine (how and when we should use extracts)
  • Data blending
  • Relational Hierarchies
  • Page Trails
  • Parameters
Prerequisite:   GBSTAB-02 or a basic understanding of Tableau and how to work with the UI

 

GBSTAB-06:   Guided Analytics
Time:   4 Hours
Target Audience:   This course is intended for intermediate Tableau users who desire and understanding of how to use Tableau to develop analyses with guided analysis tools.
What the student will learn:   Students successfully completing this course will be able to create analysis products and dashboards to be used by individuals or 3rd party users to perform custom analyses of imported datasets.
